Tim Simon – Madiston plc - Founder, Chairman & CEO
Tim started a career in IT with IBM as a Systems Engineer and then later he joined a small private client stockbroker as a Partner’s Assistant. This was enough to ignite the entrepreneur in him and in 1975 he founded Consultants (Computer & Financial) Limited, providing software to the securities and banking market.
In April 1981, the company was floated as CCF Group on the Unlisted Securities Market of the London Stock Exchange, the predecessor of the current Alternative Investment Market ("AIM"). In 1982 CCF opened an office in Hong Kong and by 1991 the company had 8 international offices. The company made 10 acquisitions including companies in New York, Paris and Sydney. It had over 500 institutions as clients, many of them the world’s largest banks and securities houses. Some of its market leading products are still used today as the core part of financial institutions’ business systems.
CCF moved to the “big board” of the London Stock Exchange in 1988, becoming Quotient PLC. At its peak, the company employed about 500 people and achieved a pre-tax profit of £4.2M from revenues of £25M. The company, which was started with £1,000 capital, never had any debt and was sold in 1991 for £27.2M to ACT Group, now part of the Misys Group.
From there Tim founded Mondas IT and invested in excess of £2M in the development of new technology financial software specifically designed to manage business processes and workflow in the securities and banking arena. When it was floated on AIM in 1996, the company raised about £1M from institutional investors. The company grew at a good rate and made two acquisitions: one providing Internet technology and the second, accounting systems. Revenue grew from minimal in 1996 to c. £5M in 2004, with over 60 employees and a customer base in excess of 300 including major banks, large corporates and educational establishments. Divisions in the boardroom caused Tim to leave and in 2006 he founded his third company Madiston plc.
Madiston provided consultancy in software for the financial sector, and mergers & acquisitions in that field. Over the past four years, Tim has focused on crowd funding and the embryonic P2P lending and borrowing market, seeing the potential it had to revolutionise banking. The Madiston team has now developed a comprehensive technology platform, Madiston Crowd Funding (“MCF”), upon which LendLoanInvest is built. This is the first of many peer-to-peer/crowd funding applications planned to be deployed on the highly automated MCF platform. Sally Johnson – Director & Company Secretary
Sally began her career in marketing with John Wiley & Sons, technical publishers, and full service agency, Owen Advertising. She then joined the Challace Group, a management and training consultancy, extending her business management skills by providing consultancy support in many senior business management workshops with IT companies to analyse their past performance and future direction; also producing marketing and business plans to DTI approved guidelines. In 1992 Sally established her own consultancy business which continues to provide support to small businesses.
Sally first began working with Tim Simon’s Mondas IT, when it was a sole trader business. Initially, she helped with financial management and establishing its quality procedures to ISO9000 standard. As Mondas grew, she took on a marketing role and was responsible for the packaging and promoting of Mondas' core products, achieving market leading positions in each of their specialist fields.
Eventually, as Company Secretary for Mondas PLC and all group companies, Sally worked with the directors on its flotation on AIM in 1996, the acquisition of two companies and various fund-raising activities.
Sally was appointed Director and Company Secretary of Madiston plc in 2006. Since that time, Sally has managed Madiston’s financial and statutory activities, marketing and customer services.
Mark Crocker – Executive Director
Mark started his IT career in 1979 as a programmer with Honeywell in the UK. In 1981 he moved to Hong Kong and joined the Honeywell sales team, rapidly moving through the ranks to become sales manager.
In 1986 he joined SPL and opened their office in Hong Kong as a distributor of leading edge technology products and grew the business by opening offices in Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. In 1993 SPL was merged with a group of loosely linked companies to form SPL WorldGroup, a leading international provider of enterprise software and services. Mark was part of the SPL WorldGroup founding executive management team and in 1997 he moved to Chicago, IL and continued to play a key role in growing the company’s revenues from $34 million to $130 million over 5 years. Since that time, he has worked with a number of early stage technology companies helping them to develop global business plans and sales strategies, negotiate major contracts, establish international channel partners and distributor networks, raise investment capital, manage turnarounds and prepare companies for sale.
Mark joined Madiston plc as an Executive Director in 2013 with particular responsibility for Madiston’s CrowdFunding software division, negotiating internationally with organisations looking to deploy highly automated social lending applications.
Professor Brian Scott-Quinn - Non-Executive Director
Professor Brian Scott-Quinn was appointed Non-Executive Director of Madiston plc in 2006. He is also Chairman of the ICMA Centre for financial markets at Henley Business School, where he is Director of Banking and Strategy Programmes. He worked in the fields of investment banking, securities trading, asset management and stockbroking prior to founding the ICMA Centre in 1994 as a specialist university finance school, sponsored by the International Capital Markets Association ("ICMA").
Originally a financial manager with Coats Viyella, the FTSE 100 multinational textile company, Brian’s career in the City of London started as a trainee with the merchant bank Hill Samuel. He then became a financial analyst with Kidder Peabody Securities Ltd, before becoming, with three others, a founder of Ross and Partners Securities Ltd - a privately owned international bond trading house. After negotiating the sale of Ross & Partners to Drexel Burnham Inc, Brian became finance director of Drexel Burnham Lambert Securities Ltd. In 1986, he became strategy advisor to the Chief Executive of Security Pacific Bank, now part of Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
He has been a consultant to, amongst many others, Westpac Bank, NM Rothschild, Canada Life Insurance, Australian Mutual Provident, Investec Bank, Shuaa Capital (Dubai), the London Stock Exchange and SWX Europe (the Swiss exchange). He was a member of the Financial Services Authority industry working group looking at Secondary Bond Market Transparency. He has also been a consultant to the US Treasury and in 1978/79 he was a monetary policy advisor to Margaret Thatcher’s first Chancellor of the Exchequer, Lord Howe of Aberavon (Sir Geoffrey Howe).
Brian is author of the recent book “Commercial and Investment Banking and the International Credit and Capital Markets: A Guide to the Global Finance Industry and its Governance” published by Palgrave Macmillan.
